2019-09-08-13_33nd Conference of the European Colloid and Interface Society KU Leuven

September 07, 2019

Welcome to ECIS 2019! It is our great pleasure to invite you to attend ECIS 2019, the 33rd Conference of the European Colloid and Interface Society (ECIS), from 8-13 September 2019.

The conference will be held at the campus of KU Leuven in Belgium.  Leuven is a small city in the Flanders region of Belgium, a short distance from Brussels. The KU Leuven campus is located in the center of town, within easy walking distance to many hotels and restaurants.

The annual ECIS Conference brings together participants from the broad, interdisciplinary field of colloid and interface science, including chemists, physicists, biologists and engineers.  Networking with both old and new colleagues will be enhanced through the social program, which will include treats from two of Belgium’s famous products, combining interfacial and colloid chemistry: beer and chocolate.

Topics will cover fundamental and applied advances in the fields of dispersed systems, nanoparticles, self-assembly and supramolecular systems, as well as wetting and liquid interfaces.  In addition, advances in theory, simulation, and instrumentation including new analytical techniques will be discussed. During the conference, plenary lectures will be given by the laureates of the Overbeek and Solvay Prizes and by other eminent speakers. Participation and advancement of young researchers and PhD students will be encouraged through the Enzo Ferroni Prize and several best poster prizes.

We are also happy to announce two pre-conference training courses.  The ECIS Training Course “Microfluidics and Surface Rheology”, led by Benoit Scheid and featuring lectures from experts in multiphase microfluidics, from September 6th-7th. In addition, the European School on Rheology will take place from September 2nd-6th.  Both courses will be held on the Arenberg Campus of KU Leuven.

2018-09-20-21_Particle Based Materials Symposium 20-21 September 2018 Chemikum Nikolaus-Fiebiger-Str 10 Erlangen Germany

September 19, 2018

Scope

The goal of the Particle-Based Materials Symposium is to bring together scientists and engineers from different communities that all share the goal of creating functionality in materials using particles. The synthesis, processing and materials integration of particles into thin films, bulk matrices, fibers or other geometries are covered by this symposium.

A strong focus will be on the development of scalable processes, novel modelling or characterisation techniques as well as material properties that can be achieved using particles and that would be hard to obtain using other approaches. Anisotropic, complex particles, and supraparticles that bring new or multiple functionalities to materials are of particular interest.

Topics

  • Synthesis (bottom up, top down), (in situ) characterisation (including new multidimensional techniques) and processing (purification, formulation, etc.) of particles to be used in advanced materials

  • Special types of particles (anisotropic particles, supraparticles, multifunctional particles, etc.) Assembly, arrangement, alignment and patterning of particles in films and bulk materials

  • Multiscale simulations of particle growth, assembly and properties

  • Applications of particle based materials with targeted (multi)functions (magnetic, optical, electronic, structural, chemical, biological, etc.)

The meeting point of Colloid and Interface Science community

The annual ECIS Conference is a major event for this community and this is the 32ndConference of a series of successful meetings, whose primary goal is to bring together all major disciplines of colloids and interfaces, enabling participants to exchange knowledge, communicate each other the results of their recent research, and to network with colleagues for new collaborations.

Fundamentals and advanced topics

Topics will cover fundamental and applied advances in the fields of interfaces, dispersed systems, wetting, complex fluids, micro-and nano-engineered materials, nanoparticles, ion specific effects, self-assembly of surfactants, polymers and proteins, and advances in theory and instrumentation. Plenary lectures will be given by the laureates of the Overbeek 2018 and Solvay 2018 Prizes and by four other eminent speakers. Furthermore, ECIS seeks to encourage the participation of young researchers and PhD students with awards dedicated to them for best oral and poster presentations.

2013-07-05 International Conference on Self-assembled Functional Materials

July 04, 2013

Background and Topics:

The “bottom up” self-assembly method has increasingly gotten scientists’ attention for effectively construction of nano- and micro-structural materials. And the self-assembled functional materials also have become the hot spot of research fields in chemistry, physics, biology, materials, microelectronics, and so on. The goal of this conference in to bring together the broad, multidisciplinary community of researchers who are interested in the field of self-assembled functional materials and the opportunities for future high-impact science and technology related to such field. The conference will provide a common forum for scientists operating in all the fields of self-assembled functional materials from their preparations to their properties and applications. The conference will primarily focus on the following topics that are of strong current interest in fields of self-assembled functional materials:

1)  Self-assembly of Colloidal Particles

2)  Photonic Crystals

3)  Molecule Self-assembly

4)  Photo-functional Materials and Devices

5)  Chemical and Biological Sensors

6)  Integrated material and bio-inspired material

7)  Others

Finally, new insights on short-term and future/futuristic device applications will be of prime interest in the framework of this conference.
